Littleton, February 9, 2009.
Ted Cooper, Senior Living Director at Riverglen House, announced today that Riverglen has embarked on a joint initiative with the New Hampshire Association for the Blind to provide improved and enhanced access opportunities for seniors with vision loss to gain greater independence while living in Senior Communities.
A recent visit to Riverglen House by Association President and CEO George Terriault and Senior Vice-President Guy Woodland resulted in an enthusiastic mutual declaration that Riverglen is poised to become a leader in reaching out to and aiding persons in line with the Association's mission, which is: "To advance the independence of persons who are blind and visually impaired."
Riverglen's goal, according to Cooper, is to "assure the safety and reinforce the confidence of blind or visually impaired persons so that they can lead fulfilling lives in a supportive community such as Riverglen House. Several Riverglen residents are currently receiving services through the Association, and we have many prospective residents with some degree of visual impairment. We want to make Riverglen the model of access in the North Country for folks with these needs."
Riverglen staff will visit the Association's McGreal Sight Center on February 25th for training, followed by additional on-site training conducted by Association staff at Riverglen in early March, with the intention of providing a North Country "outpost" for the Association's efforts.
The N.H. Association for the Blind offers services to all people with sight impairment or blindness regardless of their ability to pay. Their services include Social Work, Rehabilitation Therapy, Orientation and Mobility Instruction, Low Vision Services, Technology and Educational Services, plus Volunteer and Public Education services. They may be contacted at 800-464-3075, or via their website http://www.sightcenter.org/ For more information about Riverglen House and this effort, please contact Ted Cooper at 603-991-7307 or by email at tcooper@riverglenhouse.com
